Details

Announced at the beginning of October 1959 the S2 replaced the S1's straight-six engine the new aluminium Rolls-Royce - Bentley L Series V8 shared with the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II. It displaced 6.2 L and offered significantly improved performance. The cylinder block and heads are cast in aluminium alloy and hydraulic tappets operate the overhead valves. The engine has a compression ratio of 8 to 1 and is fitted with twin carburettors with automatic choke. Other features available include fully automatic transmission, power-assisted steering, electrically operated ride control, redesigned and more flexible air conditioning, electric rear window demisters and press button window lifts.

This 1960 Bentley S2 is finished in Velvet green with a beige interior with chassis number B413CT. Manufactured in November 1960, this UK specification vehicle was exported new to the United States where it was the personal transport for the Australian Ambassador in Washington, Sir Howard Beale, during the Kennedy era. Following Sir Howard’s retirement, the vehicle accompanied him back to Sydney where it was chauffeur driven. The car was subsequently sold to Eric Goudie, Secretary of the Canberra arm of the Rolls Royce Owners Club of Australia who owned it for many years until his death in 2006. Following his wife’s death a year later, the car was exported to Italy where it was extensively refurbished. This included a respray and full retrim (headlining, carpets and leather) in original colours, as well as a top end rebuild of the engine and gearbox rebuild (in total there are 25,000 Euros of invoices for this work)

Since being imported to the UK 8 years ago, this vehicle has had light domestic use as well as some further mechanical work including new tappets, carburettor refurbishment and setting up, and a new exhaust system.

This vehicle is offered in very good condition and is particularly free of rust given its life in Australia. In fact there is no evidence of any rust or welding having ever been on the underside of the car.
