1953 Bentley R -Type Special Sports Saloon with an all aluminium frame and body by Mulliner finished in black and grey with a grey leather interior. This is an extremely rare car and is believed to be one of only 41 Mulliner bodied R-Types and 1 of only 2 that were sold with a clear roof panel. It features the following options which are taken from the original build sheet:

  • Recesses in rear doors with hinged lids

  • Recesses to front doors with locking sliding shutters

  • Cigar boxes in front door armrests

  • Notepad and mirror in centre armrest

  • Thief proof radiator cap

  • Special bumpers

  • Sliding table under cubby hole

  • Special stop and tail lights

  • 2 fog lamps

  • Glass panel in roof

The car was delivered in 1953 to Sir Harold Bowden of London and has since had 5 owners in total. The R-Type features a 4.6 litre six cylinder engine and most were delivered a standard steel factory body but this example has an all aluminium body by Mulliner which reduces the overall weight of the car and gives it more sprightly performance and handling. This particular car also has the very expensive option of the Continental overdrive rear axle fitted which aids motorway cruising. It has also had front and rear 3 point seat belts fitted with bespoke mounts etc at great cost and has bleached interior woodwork which brightens the cabin very nicely.
