The BMW E31 is the first generation of the BMW 8 Series. It is a grand tourer built by BMW from 1990 to 1999 as a 2-door coupé, powered by either a V8 or V12 engine. Whilst it did supplant the original E24 based 6 Series in 1990, it was not a direct successor, but a new model class with a substantially higher price and performance than the 6 Series. It was one of the first vehicles to be fitted with an electronic drive-by-wire throttle. The 8 Series was one of BMW's first cars, together with the Z1, to use a multi-link rear axle. The 850i was the first model of the 8 Series launched in 1990 with the 5.0-litre M70B50 V12 engine having a power output of 300 hp. It was available with either a 4-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual gearbox.

It has covered 110k miles and has recently benefitted from a thorough mechanical servicing / preventative maintenance programme in our workshop featuring the following:

  • Major service including spark plugs, air filters, oil & filter, fuel filter.

  • Strip inlet manifolds from engine, remove cam covers and lock wire oil spray bar bolts with replacement gaskets

  • Set of 4 tyres

  • Crank and cam sensor replacements

  • Auxiliary drive belt and tensioners

  • Both 12V batteries

  • Gearbox flush and filter replacement

  • Brake system accumulator

  • Strip and clean electronic throttle motors

  • Replace ECU chipset with well respected Wokke Performance set giving a slight performance gain and improved throttle pedal response. Original chipset with car and easily reversible.

The car is originally from New Zealand which is a huge benefit as they do not salt their roads. We removed the sill covers and all of the underbody protection and the car presents as a two year old car. We have fully lanoguard clear wax protected the car for the future and it is genuinely rust free. It comes with a very thorough service history filling a whole file including its original service booklet and owners manuals too. It starts and runs just as it should with none of the usual M70 V12 idle hunting etc due to all of the preventative maintenance listed above. The EDC suspension functions correctly and the car drives very well.
